The 3D God of War (Guan Gong) with a Dragon and Customizable Bail Pendant is fully sculptural rather than a relief on a plate. Guan Yu — the Han general venerated as the god of war, loyalty and righteousness — sits robed and armoured at the centre, his guandao blade rising behind his shoulder. A dragon winds through and around the whole figure, its head clearing the front at his knee, its scaled body passing behind him and re-emerging on the other side, and its tail curling into the cloud bank at the base.
The piece is cut clean through in a dozen places, so daylight passes between the dragon’s coils and the figure behind them. That openwork is what makes it read as sculpture from any angle — the side view shows a fully modelled back, not a flat reverse.
Scrolling clouds fill the top and the base, and every surface is left in a fine satin so the scale texture, the folds of the robe and the face all hold their detail. No stones, no plating.
The bail is customizable. The example shown carries a single Chinese character — a family surname — cut as an openwork plate above the pendant. Yours can be made with the character, initial or short name you choose, or as a plain polished bail if you prefer the figure to stand alone.
