The guardian at the gate, with his paw on the world.
The Diamond-Cut Foo Dog Rectangular Pendant sets a seated guardian lion in high relief inside a mirror-polished rectangular frame. He sits upright and forward-facing, curled mane worked in individual coils, brow heavy over the eyes, mouth open, with a collar of bells and a ribbon across his chest — and one front paw resting on a brocade ball.
That detail places him: the lion with the ball is the male of the pair, the one who guards the building and, by extension, everything in it. His counterpart holds a cub under her paw. He is carved in soft satin so the mane and the face hold their shadow.
Behind him the whole field is diamond-cut into rays running from the figure out to the frame, finished in contrasting metal so the lion reads bright against moving light. The frame is left mirror-polished, and the bail plain, so nothing draws attention off the animal.
At an inch and a quarter it wears close and reads clearly — a protection piece meant to be worn constantly rather than kept for occasions.
