The Happy Buddha with a Bandana Arch Frame Diamond Pendant sets a seated Budai inside a deep arched frame — the bell-shaped form used for temple amulets — and then does one thing nobody expects with it.
The bandana. A deep blue paisley bandana is tied across the lower half of his face, worked in fine white line detail against the blue and standing proud of the carving so it reads as cloth pulled over metal rather than as surface decoration. It is the whole idea of the piece: a face everyone knows by its smile, covered, and still unmistakably laughing from the eyes up.
The figure. Budai is carved in satin gold, deeply recessed into the niche — the open robe, the round belly, the folds pooling around him, prayer beads running through one hand, seated on a scrolled cloud base. A beaded chain with a small diamond-set pendant hangs at his chest, so the figure is wearing jewelry of his own.
The ground behind him is cut into a fine radiating sunburst, every ray engraved, so the figure sits against light rather than against a blank field. The niche is genuinely deep — the frame wall stands well clear of the carving, and the piece is read through that opening like a shrine rather than a plaque.
The stones frame, they do not cover. A single row of round diamonds runs the full perimeter of the arch in a raised bezel, and the piece is topped by a fully pavé-set trophy cup with two handles. Nothing is set on the Buddha himself except the little pendant at his chest. 6.3tcw across 320 stones, all of it around the edge and above.
At 3.25" tall and 185g in 18K this is a heavy piece, and the bail opening is 10mm — it wants a thick Cuban or rope under it.
