The Lady Buddha (Guan Yin) Partial Diamond Pendant is a sculptural piece, not a flat relief. Guan Yin is seated in meditation on an open lotus, hands pressed together at the chest in añjali mudrā, eyes lowered and closed. The whole figure is finished in a soft satin that holds the carving rather than throwing glare at it — the folds of the robe, the pleated drapery falling over the lotus, the scrollwork at the collar and shoulders are all legible because nothing is polished to compete with them.
The diamonds are used sparingly, and that is the point. Thirty-two stones are bezel-set into the crown and headdress, arranged as a halo framing the face, with the rest carried on the bail. The body of the piece carries none at all. It is a partial setting by design: the light rings the head the way a nimbus would, and everything below it stays quiet.
The lotus base opens in full-petal relief beneath her, each petal tip left polished so the flower catches light where the figure does not — the one bright note in an otherwise matte piece.
The bail is a tall multi-row pavé post, and takes a chain up to 3.5mm.
A note on the name: Guan Yin is a bodhisattva — Avalokiteśvara in feminine form, the embodiment of compassion. She is widely known as Lady Buddha, and that is the name carried here.
