A painting, its frame, and the prayer on the back — all cut from one piece of gold.
The Saint Michael Archangel Portrait Artwork Pendant is built as a picture rather than a medal. An ornate Baroque frame runs the full perimeter — scrolled and beaded, with shell cartouches breaking the corners and the centre of each side — and steps down over an inner fillet to the panel it holds.
Inside is the scene, worked in relief and left entirely satin so it reads like a canvas rather than jewellery. Saint Michael stands in classical armour and a short tunic, wings open behind him, both hands driving the lance downward. Beneath his foot the devil lies thrown on his back, one arm still raised. Rock, cloud and drapery fill the ground behind them.
Keeping the whole face in one matte finish is what makes it work — there is no polish anywhere on the front to break the illusion that you are looking at a small painting.
The reverse is a flat plate engraved with the prayer in full:
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
A wide fluted bail sits above the frame, sized at 6mm to take a heavy chain — which this piece needs.
