The Fu (Lucky) Diamond Pendant is the character 福 — fú, fortune — cut at 2.5" and set from edge to edge. It is written in a flowing cursive hand rather than a printed one: the strokes swell and taper the way a loaded brush does, they curl back on themselves at the ends, and the whole character leans into its own motion. Reproducing that in metal and then setting every millimetre of it is the difficulty of this piece.
Every stroke is built the same way. An inner channel of emerald-cut stones runs the length of the stroke, laid end to end and following it around each curve, and that channel is surrounded on both sides by rows of round diamonds. The step cuts carry the long flashes down the body of the stroke; the rounds throw fire along its edges. It is the pairing that makes a fully set character still read as writing rather than as a bright blob.
The same treatment closes the counters — the enclosed spaces inside the right-hand element are each ringed in rounds, so the openings stay crisp and the character keeps its internal structure at a glance.
