The Happy Money Cat Pendant is a large seated maneki-neko carved in the round, eyes shut and grinning, and it is loaded with symbols rather than relying on any single one.
The raised right paw holds a dollar sign above its head, cut as a separate pierced element. The left paw carries a scroll banner reading 招財進寶 — zhāo cái jìn bǎo, “bring in wealth, bring in treasure,” the standard New Year wish. A money bag marked with a dollar sign sits at its shoulder.
Across the chest is a carved bib bearing 福 (fortune) and 財 (wealth) between flower rosettes, and the whole lower body sits on a heaped mound of gold ingots and cash coins, each one carved individually.
The pendant is built hollow with a solid back. That is what makes a piece this size wearable — two and a half inches of fully modelled sculpture at a weight you can actually hang on a chain, closed and stiffened by a solid back plate. The edge band is worked in pierced openwork the whole way round, so the piece is finished on its sides as well as its face.
Satin throughout with the raised elements brought up bright, and a wide 8mm bail sized for a heavy chain.
