The Italian Cornicello Pendant is finished in a full mirror polish from the collar to the tip — no satin, no texture, no cut detail anywhere on it. That is the whole design, and it is the reason the piece is harder to make than it looks: on a mirror this size every curve has to be truly fair, because the reflection shows any flat spot or ripple immediately.
The horn is not a plain round tube. It carries a faceted twist — a defined ridge running the length with flat planes falling away on either side — so as it tapers, the highlight travels down the ridge and the two faces catch light at different angles. In profile it reads almost blade-like rather than tubular.
The form has the traditional gentle S-curve, thick through the shoulder and drawn to a fine point at the tip.
At the top, a squared collar cuts the horn off cleanly and carries a substantial rounded bail with a 7mm opening — wide enough for a heavy Cuban or Franco, which is how this piece is usually worn.
The cornicello is worn against the malocchio, the evil eye. Tradition holds that it should be given rather than bought for yourself, and that it works until it breaks — at which point it has done its job and taken the harm instead of you.
