The "2" Diamond Pendant uses a swash form rather than a block one. The upper terminal rolls inward into a tight closed spiral, the foot at the lower left curls into a second smaller spiral, and the base sweeps out to the right and finishes on a fine point. Three different endings on one character, and none of them square.
The whole face is pavé-set, laid in rows that curve with the stroke — around the inside of each spiral, along the belly of the curve, and out into the tapering tail. Where the stroke narrows, the rows narrow with it. At 2.75tcw across 240 stones there is no bare field on the front.
A polished gold rim traces the entire outline, and that includes the inside of both spirals and the whole length of the tail. It is fine work — the rim has to follow a line that turns back on itself twice — and it is what stops a curved letterform from losing its shape once it is fully set.
It can be made as any number or any letter. The "2" shown is an example. The bail is a two-row pavé post with a 5mm opening.
At 1.5" without the bail and 20g in 18K, this is a single character with real presence and still an everyday size.
