The 3D Standing God of War (Guan Gong) Pendant is a free-cut sculpture — no plate, no frame, the outline is whatever the figure and his drapery make. That is what separates it from the plaque versions: this one has air around it.
Guan Yu is caught walking. His guandao is carried low in one hand with the shaft running down past his legs and the blade turned out, and his other hand is raised across his chest to gather his beard — the gesture he is always shown making.
The robes are the widest part of the piece and the reason it works: the skirt flares out on both sides in deep carved folds and a sash streams behind, so the silhouette is a triangle rather than a column. His armour carries a beast-mask plate at the chest, layered shoulder guards, and a winged crown above the long beard.
Everything is satin with only the bail left bright. At 45mm by 28mm and 35g in 18K, it takes a chain up to 3.5mm.
Guan Yu was a general of the Later Han, deified for keeping his word at any cost. Shown standing with the guandao rather than enthroned, this is the martial reading — the protector rather than the sage.
