The Marquise Floral Cluster Stud Earrings build each flower from four marquise-cut diamonds set point-to-point around a shared centre, so the petals meet at the middle and open outward to four bare tips. There is no round stone in the middle and no metal disc behind them — the whole shape is made of the stones themselves.
The marquise is the reason this works. A marquise is cut long and pointed, which means each petal already has a tapering shape before it is set; four of them arranged in a cross read as a flower without any carving. It is also the harder cut to set, because the two points are the thinnest part of the stone and the most likely to chip — each point here is held in its own prong, with the inner ends sharing prongs at the centre.
The gallery is open underneath. Nothing is closed off behind the stones, so light enters from the back as well as the front. On a piece this size that is what keeps .65tcw of small stones reading as bright rather than grey.
At 0.35" across each earring sits flat to the lobe and covers it without hanging past it — the size that gets worn on a Tuesday, not just at a wedding.
