The Medium 9 Dragons Circle Pendant is a pierced openwork medallion — the ground is not carved, it is removed. Light passes through the gaps between the animals, which is why a disc this size can carry 137g of 24K gold and still read as lacework rather than a slab.
A Greek key band runs the full circumference as a flat outer ring, and it is the only straight-edged element on the piece — a hard geometric frame holding everything that moves inside it.
The nine dragons are arranged around the centre in symmetry, bodies interlocking so each one’s coils become the negative space for the next. At the top centre a larger dragon head faces straight out, and at the exact middle sits a smooth domed pearl — the still point every one of the nine is turned toward.
The bail is a plain round ring. On an openwork disc it is the right choice: a flat band would read as a solid block against all that piercing.
At 70mm across this is a chest piece. Nine is the imperial number in Chinese tradition — the emperor’s robes carried nine dragons, and nine-dragon screens stand at the Forbidden City and Beihai Park. It is the maximum, not an arbitrary count.
