The Mosaic Dragon Pendant gets its name from how it is surfaced rather than what it depicts. Instead of smooth modelled relief, the entire face is worked in fine granulation — dense raised beads packed across the dragon and the field alike, so the image is assembled from texture the way a mosaic is assembled from tesserae.
The effect is specific: from arm’s length it reads as a dragon; up close it dissolves into thousands of individual points, each one catching light separately. Nothing on the face is flat.
The outline is a cartouche rather than a rectangle — the border is a continuous run of thick cloud curls that swell and scallop all the way round, so no two edges are the same length. Inside it the dragon coils with its head at the centre, and a domed boss sits below.
The bail is a plain round ring, left completely smooth — the only untextured surface on the piece.
At 55mm by 40mm and 64.9g in 24K it is a substantial plate, thick through the section, and takes a chain up to 7mm.
