San Judas Tadeo, cut free of any frame.
The Standing Saint Jude Pendant has no plaque behind it and no border around it. The pendant is the figure — cut to his own outline, so the silhouette of the robe, the staff and the halo is the shape you wear. Between the staff and the body the metal is open; you see through it.
He stands as he always does: the disc halo behind his head, the beard and the level gaze, the club-staff of his martyrdom held upright in one hand, and the medallion of Christ — the image sent to King Abgar of Edessa — held against his chest in the other. The robe falls in deep carved folds from the shoulder to bare feet, each fold cut individually.
The finish is what carries it. The figure is worked in fine satin, and the ridges of the drapery are then taken back to a high polish, so the folds flash bright against the matte as the piece turns. The staff is cut with a fine rope texture down its whole length.
Saint Jude is the patron of desperate cases and lost causes — the one you go to when the others have not answered.
