The smallest medal we make, and the whole apparition still fits on it.
The Virgin Mary Pendant is 22.5mm by 15mm — smaller than a thumbnail — and takes a chain of only 2.5mm. At 6g in 18K it is the lightest piece in the catalogue by a wide margin, and it is built for someone who wants the image close rather than visible.
Inside a plain raised rim, the field carries the full apparition composition: Our Lady standing frontally, veiled, in a long mantle with her hands joined at her breast, on a bank of clouds, with rays fanning out behind her from head height to the edge of the oval on both sides. Below the clouds the ground is worked into a fine textured landscape.
Fitting a standing figure, cloud, a full ray burst and a landscape into 22.5mm is the entire achievement of this piece. Everything is cut in low relief and satin-finished, because at this scale deep carving would collapse into noise and polish would wash it out.
The reverse is plain and polished smooth — enough room for initials or a date, which is what most people do with a medal this size.
